Reality TV has taken over… no longer needed actors will probably be collecting unemployment soon! What is it exactly that draws us to watching other people’s lives? I have to confess, for some time I’ve been a reality TV closet watcher - one who wouldn’t admit how fascinated I am by some of the shows! Of course not all the shows have the same impact, but a handful of them truly make a difference and are worth a mention.

Watch the first five minutes of it and it’s enough to vow to never have children: kids without respect, hurting each other (and their parents sometimes!), running wild, parents without a life and definitely without a clue as to how to get a grip on the family. If you can bear to continue watching, you can not only observe a huge turn-around for the family but possibly get some pointers for your own youngsters: Almost without exception, the family gets a lesson in discipline, reward and respect - kids and adults alike! Highly recommended for parents and parents-to-be, beats any parenting book.
Spouse-Swap
For all of you raising your eyebrow reading this: yes, I have frowned upon the concept - until I caught a couple of episodes that dropped my jaw. People from different backgrounds and life situations trade a spouse for a week or two, having to exchange experiences and rules from both sides. That’s really the key: the hosting families as well a s the new “mom” or “dad” all have the opportunity to see life from a different angle. People who live in chaos learn the value of order and care, “perfect” super moms experience how loosening up a bit helps them and their families relax and bond, children get a chance to express themselves, spouses realize the significance of their partners only once their gone… the list goes on. Watching people make life altering shifts remains simply fascinating to me!

I think what we’re truly hooked on is the moment of unveiling when the family is presented with the out-of-proportion gifts, who can keep a dry eye??? It simply feels good and it’s easy to connect to any aspect, the sharing, the receiving, the giving, the coming together - we all want that!
