Welcome to the Family!

Almost two months ago, a small and almost emaciated kitty came hunting for food in our garden. Skiddish and cautious, she wouldn’t let anyone come near her. We started to feed her and quickly realized that she was carrying some of the food away to feed her offspring. Only one of her kittens was left as we learned from a neighbor who had observed her habitat in a nearby shed.

The rest is history! Mommacat soon brought her little one over to dine together. We captured them both to give them vetenarian care, then began our journey of gaining their trust (again..) gradually. Both of them have been so much fun, they crack us up all the time and every day is a new adventure in experiencing their progress in relationship with humans.

We named mommacat Zena, mostly out of awe and respect of what this tiny 5+lb cat accomplished in fending for herself and her kitties. Our vet said that Zena is 2 years old and that she had a "very rough" two years judging from her teeth and general condition. Zena, you are home now! She has already gained her weight back and is warming up rapidly to owning us, ha!

Balto is a smart kitten who is contemplating whether going out hunting with mom is really necessary - after all, dinner will be served in the living room! His favorite toys are shoestrings and anything that moves.

It’s wonderful to have feline energy back in our lives after Jack and Barney passed away. Although the introduction of these two sweeties meant a sacrifice in terms of birds and wildlife around our ponds, they are also extremely fascinating to watch as they hunt squirrels and other prey right in front of our porch - we have the best show in town with guaranteed front row seats!
